About the project
Protected by Halyna Andrusenko
The project continues the artist’s exploration of the theme of “protection” in wartime, which she began in the graphic series and performances Protected and Not Protected (2022–). In previous works, she turned to the image of monuments that were wrapped in protective materials with the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in Ukraine. Since then, the wrapped monuments have taken on a different form — carefully preserved and at the same time a reminder of the threat.
In the work in progress Protected, Halyna Andrusenko transfers this gesture of wrapping from a public space to a private one — into a conventional room on stage, where the people and objects most dear to her are gathered. The audience is invited into an intimate zone, among furniture, objects, and people with whom the artist has close relationships.
About the author
Halyna Andrusenko is an artist from Mykolaiv region (born in Hrushivka village, Pervomayskyi district). In her practice, she explores the themes of protection, memory, and home in the contexts of war and human vulnerability. She works with painting and graphics, sometimes turning to photography, video, and performance.
