Fellowship idea
The Antonin Artaud Fellowship supports emerging artists and managers in the field of performance and theater arts who are working in Ukraine.
We focus on representatives of the independent sector, creating conditions for experimentation and innovation. We aim to enhance the competitiveness and international visibility of Ukrainian performance and theater arts.
We support small-scale experimental works that have the potential for further development. We believe in the value of experimentation, regardless of the results. We are working to develop a sustainable and diverse community of professionals. This community can be a catalyst for creating works of relevance that resonate with audiences in Ukraine and abroad.
Within the Fellowship, we:
- Support the creation and presentation of works in progress
- Conduct educational programs
- Create opportunities for familiarization with international experience and presentation of works on international platforms
- Support exchange and networking within the fellowship community
- Collecting dedicated library
As of now: We have supported 22 fellows who have presented 23 works in progress. Around 100 artists have been involved in the creation and presentation of these works.
Methodology
- Based on an open call, we select individuals who submit their concepts for works in progress. The selection criteria include the quality of the concept, its relevance to local and international audiences, and the applicant’s interest in long-term development and exchange with colleagues. Works of various directions and genres are supported.
- Selected concepts receive a financial support for the creation of the work in progress (fees, purchase of materials, costumes, etc.).
- During the creation of their works, fellows receive mentorship and support in addressing organizational issues such as space rental, equipment, communication, and PR.
- The presentation of works in progress is documented through photos, videos, and texts.
- Meetings are held for the community of fellows from different years to facilitate exchange, and additional opportunities are created for the future development of their works.
