About the project

My Friend From Nowhereland by Georgi Gogatadze

My Friend From Nowhereland is a work in progress with a multimedia installation. It is based on the exchange of memories, media, and roles.

The correspondence between two online friends — from Budzhak (South of the Odessa region) and Balochistan (a historical region on the northern coast of the Indian Ocean) — evolves into a performative act of reconstructing time and space, synthesizing a common experience that forms a new dimension: Nowhereland.

The work explores the commonality of two parallel experiences: life on the periphery, the search for identity in a religious context, and isolation, where the Internet becomes the only channel of communication* for finding intimacy.

“My friend and I met online and saw a mirror in each other: different cultures, but common feelings — peripherality, alienation, the search for faith, and the internal conflict between homosexuality and religious teachings, an attempt to find acceptance of oneself online. Our landscapes echo like two ‘borderlands.’ We share photos, videos, audio, and diary entries. The fusion of our voices and memories creates Nowhereland — an imaginary shared space between two realities,” says Georgi Gogatadze.
