Fellowship idea
The Antonin Artaud Fellowship supports emerging artists and managers who explore new forms in theatre and performance in Ukraine.
We focus on representatives of the independent sector, we create conditions for experimentation and innovation. We aim to foster the international visibility and professional growth of Ukrainian theatre and performance.
We support small-scale experimental works with potential for further development. We believe in the value of experimentation, regardless of the results. We are working to build a sustainable, diverse community of professionals. This community can be a catalyst for creating works that resonate with audiences in Ukraine and abroad.
Within the Fellowship, we:
- Support the creation and presentation of works in progress
- Implement educational programs
- Create opportunities for international exchange and the presentation of works on global platforms
- Facilitate peer-to-peer exchange and networking among the fellows
- Developing a dedicated library
From 2022 to 2026, we supported 27 fellows who presented 28 works in progress all across Ukraine and abroad. More than 120 artists have been involved in the creation and presentation of these works.
Methodology
- Based on an open call, we select individuals who submit their concepts for works in progress. The selection criteria include the quality of the concept, its relevance to local and international audiences, and the applicant’s interest in long-term development and professional exchange. We support works from different disciplines and genres.
- Selected concepts receive financial support for the creation of the work in progress (fees, materials, costumes, etc.).
- During the production process, fellows receive mentorship and support with organizational matters, including space rental, equipment, communication, and PR.
- We document work in progress presentations through photos, videos, and text.
- We hold regular meetings for the community of fellows from different years to facilitate exchange and actively seek additional opportunities to further develop their work.
